Case Study: New Business App Revamp for Malaeb

Project Overview
As the UX Designer for Malaeb, a leading platform for pitch owners and coaches, I led the redesign of the mobile app used by pitch owners to manage their bookings, schedules, coaching, and more. The app had received some feedback regarding its usability, and our goal was to create a streamlined, user-friendly experience that aligned with modern design standards and improved functionality across all aspects of the platform.

 

Challenges

The original app, while functional, faced several challenges:

  • Cluttered UI: The design was overly complex, with a lack of clear hierarchy and intuitive navigation.

  • Inefficient Forms: Scheduling and booking forms were clunky, leading to a frustrating user experience.

  • Outdated Aesthetics: The design felt outdated and didn't reflect the modern, sleek image that Malaeb wanted to project to its users.

  • Limited Features: Features like loyalty programs, discounts, and coaching management were present but needed to be expanded and made more user-friendly.
     

Design Goals

  • Simplify User Flows: Make it easier for stadium owners to navigate through the app.

  • Improve Usability: Reduce the number of steps required to perform actions like booking, managing schedules, and creating promotions.

  • Enhance Aesthetics: Create a more modern, cohesive design with a sleek and polished interface.

  • Boost Engagement: Expand and optimize the loyalty program and coaching features to enhance user interaction and satisfaction.

  • Make Updates Seamless: Ensure that new features like coupons, discounts, and coaching management are intuitive and easy to access.
     

Solutions Implemented

1. User-Friendly Forms and Streamlined Processes

The booking and schedule management systems were key areas where users were experiencing frustration. We simplified the booking flow by introducing:

  • Sleek, user-friendly forms: Clear fields, logical flow, and instant feedback for errors or success messages.

  • Upgraded Schedule Page: The new design uses cards to display upcoming bookings and allows for easy adjustments, including cancellations or rescheduling.
     

2. Redesigned Booking System with Visual Cards

We replaced a more text-heavy system with visual cards representing bookings. These cards give users a quick view of their pitch bookings with important details and allow for seamless interaction.
 

3. Enhanced Coaching Features

We expanded the coaching features by adding:

  • Coaches Management: A new section allows stadium owners to manage their coaches easily, with the ability to add new coaches, manage packages, and integrate with the schedule system.

  • Improved Calendar: Coaches and stadium owners can now manage appointments more efficiently using an intuitive calendar system.
     

4. Expanded Loyalty Program and Discounts

To improve engagement and retention, we revamped the Loyalty Program:

  • More Flexible Rewards: Users can now create rules for loyalty rewards with greater flexibility (e.g., booking-based rewards or percentage discounts).

  • Coupons & Discounts: A redesigned coupon creation interface that makes it easier for owners to create and distribute discounts.
     

5. Aesthetic Overhaul

We gave the app a sleek, modern look with updated colors, typography, and icons:

  • Dark, minimalistic theme: The dark, sleek design brings focus to the content and provides a clean, distraction-free experience.

  • Enhanced Interactivity: We used high-contrast colors to highlight key interactive elements, improving overall readability and usability.
     

Before & After

The changes we implemented were substantial. Below is a comparison of the original and revamped app designs:

  • Before (Old App):

    • Cluttered forms and text-heavy interfaces.

    • Complex navigation leading to confusion and slow interaction.

    • Outdated design that didn't align with user expectations of a modern mobile app.

  • After (New App):

    • Streamlined forms with clear fields and intuitive flow.

    • Simplified booking and scheduling, with visual cards for quick interaction.

    • Modern, sleek design with enhanced usability.

    • Expanded loyalty program and discounts section for increased user engagement.
       

Impact

  • Increased User Engagement: With simplified processes and an improved loyalty program, users are more likely to interact with the app regularly.

  • Enhanced User Retention: By making booking and scheduling processes faster and more enjoyable, pitch owners are more likely to return to the app for their booking needs.

  • Positive Feedback: Early feedback from users has been overwhelmingly positive, with users appreciating the more modern look and feel, as well as the new features and improvements.
     

Conclusion

The redesigned Malaeb Business App has significantly improved the experience for stadium owners. By focusing on simplicity, usability, and modern aesthetics, we’ve created an app that not only meets the needs of users but also exceeds their expectations. This project is a testament to the power of thoughtful, user-centered design, and we look forward to continuing to enhance and optimize the app further.
